Weekend Update: 8/29

Y’all, I have gone three weeks without acquiring new plants. Congratulations to me! I’m sure this will change once autumn makes my home more suitable to indoor plants, but for now, I’m appreciating any plant that’s displaying steady growth. Especially the big ones, like my monstera, philodendron ring of fire, and variegated rubber plant!

I’ve certainly developed a maximalist collector’s tendency over the years. Funko pops, magazines, books, fragrances, glasses, sweaters, and, quite obviously, plants! My knack for finding great deals has been good for my bank account, but not so much for my space, both mentally and physically. I’m in active declutter mode right now. I wish I lived close enough to friends to give away my plants! I’d sell my plants, but the ones that I do want to declutter — such as my dracaenas — are relatively common and don’t seem worth the hassle of charging anyone for shipping.

Anyway, my plants! They’re slowly bouncing back from the hot weather. It’s cooling down around here, so I don’t see as much dead foliage. Mostly, my weekend passed by as I curled up in bed reading or watching TV. My basic weekend consists of half-watching whatever is on Comet TV (yes, I still watch broadcast TV despite covering streaming shows for work). You’ll usually find something fun and spooky on the weekend like Rod Serling’s Night GalleryThe Ray Bradbury Theater, or George A. Romero Presents. Three or four episodes will pass by the time I finish watering and fertilizing all of my plants!

Here’s my variegated pink rubber plant. It’s been enjoying bright light and weekly fertilizing. This weekend will mark one year since I had it. My boyfriend got it for me on sale for $5 at Home Depot after my birthday.

Again, my philodendron is giving off another pink leaf!

After I repotted it into a huge terracotta pot, my monstera went stagnant for a few months. It loves a plastic container, but I’m too lazy to reverse course at this point. So it’s a promising sign that my monstera is unfurling a leaf after going dormant.

Last, and perhaps least important, my folklore CD arrived in the mail after a month! I already listened to the entire album. As a Swiftie, I don’t know if I’ve ever loved every song on a record, but each song on folklore does put me in my feelings. I’m loving “the lakes,” “invisible string,” and “my tears ricochet.”

For now, keep calm and grow on, my plant friends. Hope y’all are hanging on.
